2022 Hills & Coast McLaren Vale Shiraz - Dozen

McLaren Vale

The Hills and Coast have a significant influence on the grapes grown on the Lloyd Brothers vineyards in McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. The McLaren Vale estate is moderated by cool ocean breezes from the coast that borders the region to the west and is also influenced by the gully breezes from the bordering
Adelaide Hills to the East. The 2022 Hills & Coast Shiraz is produced from grapes grown on blocks 3, 4 13 and Manor Block of the Lloyd Brothers historic McLaren Vale Estate, which is located just 6km from the coast,  creating a unique and distinctive microclimate.
Winemaking - A great vintage in the McLaren Vale in 2022. A long, slow, cool vintage lead to great flavour development at low baumes whilst retaining great acidity. Fruit from Estate was machine picked using a selective harvester in the cool of night, then crushed and fermented in 2, 5 and 10 tonne open fermenters. A percentage pressed straight to seasoned French oak where it spent 12 months prior to bottling. Vegan friendly.
Tasting Note - Dark crimson red in colour with aromas of forest fruits with lifted  spice and pepper. The palate has layers of raspberry, mulberry and boysenberry fruits which is beautifully backed up with a hint of
spice, liquorice and mocha overtones. A delicious medium to full bodied shiraz from the stunning 2022 vintage

92 points James Suckling - "Another ridiculously priced wine given the stellar quality. An almost cool-climate aura to the nose of iodine, boysenberries, olives, graphite and lavender. The tannins are a little obtuse, but this is worth buying for the nose and its whiff of sophistication alone. Superlative value. Drink now." Ned Goodwin MW Senior Editor

93 points The Wine Pilot - "A very dark maroon/purple colour here. The nose gives us concentrated notes of dried herbs, chocolate, plums, spices, coffee grinds, blackcurrants and dried fruits. Silky lingering palate, with a fine line of acidity and excellent length and balance. Delicious, and surely a contender for best value of the year. Now for the next ten years." Ken Gargett
